New Rules for application of Solar PV Feed-in Approval to ensure fairer share of Pie

Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia) announces that applications for the Feed-in Approval for Solar photovoltaic (PV) will be further regulated. The new rules on the Solar PV Feed-in Approval (FiA) application are as follow :

Category

Rules for Solar PV (FiA) application

 Category 1 : Individual
                      (≤ 12 kW)

maximum 12 kW per application; normally for residential / households

 Category 2 : Non-individual
                      (≤ 500 kW)

 maximum 500 kW per application

 Category 3 : Non-individual
                      (> 1 MW ≤ 5 MW)

 maximum 5 MW per application

For Category 1, this new rule of 12 kW per application is introduced as the quota in this category is meant specially for small Solar Photovoltaic system to be installed normally on residential houses’ rooftop. Multiple FiA applications for the same installed site are not allowed.

For non-individuals (i.e. companies and other entities), there are 2 rules: applicants could apply for a maximum of 500 kW per application for small solar PV system or a maximum of 5 MW for larger solar PV systems.

These rules are necessary as SEDA Malaysia holds the responsibility to ensure fair competition and transparency in the implementation of the feed-in tariff system as stipulated under Section 3 of Renewable Energy Act 2011 and to provide an opportunity for more players to get a share of the limited quota for Solar PV.
